If you want old-world charm and outstanding hospitality in a magnificent setting - then look no further than Portland Manor on the outskirts of Knysna. The 164 year old manor house - the same one referred to in Dalene Mathee's books - is a treat just to visit , let alone to stay in. The solid old building with gorgeous stonework and some really interesting antiques and paintings makes you feel like you have stepped back in time. Debbie is a superb hostess and nothing is too much trouble for her. The room was spacious and very comfortable with a small bathroom complete with authentic caste-iron bath. The view and the setting are certainly worth mentioning as are the many beautiful peacocks and wildlife just a couple of hundred meters from our room. We had a very special dining experience with two friends in one of the lounge/dining rooms which we had all to ourselves. With a blazing fire and our red wine in crystal glasses, accompanied by Debbie's delicious three course meal - it was an evening to remember. I would certainly highly recommend a stay here.

Thank you so much to all of you for a wonderful time at Portland Manor. Everyone was very friendly, warm and always helpful. Our "pre-Christmas" dinner in the Manor House dining room was a night to remember for many years to come...the yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes...amazing! thank you

Our stay at Portland Manor was certainly the highlight of our Garden Route holiday. The accommodation was superb, furnishings and decorations does the historic aspect of the establishment proud. Of special mention is the dinner that was served, fit for the dining room that speaks of elegance of yesteryear. The rates charged makes this a very affordable stay for even someone on a tight holiday budget.

Booked accommodation for a family of 5 in 2 rooms all adults and booked online (from Australia) Once we turned off the main road and entered into Portland manor driveway we were all on the edge of our seats. A long driveway passing a gorgeous lake and what looks to be the setting of Downtown Abbey. The owner was lovely, the barman (Jerome) was just wonderful and hospitable and everything was a great surprise. Only disappointment was we were only there for 1night. Food was made fresh and straight from the heart. A wonderful stay that I hope to return to some day.

We discovered to lovely place with warm and friendly service. The breakfast was wonderful and well worth it. It's nice to find a place just outside Knysna, away from the main road. It is a good 15 - 20 min drive from Knysna but well worth it. Will be back again.
